This album alone nearly defines the genre of progressive rock along with their album The Wall. Even though there are quite a few bands that have tried to follow in their footsteps, most are only known in certain underground circles and are rarely played on the radios Oldies' Stations. However, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon has proven over time that it is powerful to more than one generation and sales of this album are still continuing even into the 2000s.
Although songs like "Time" and "Us and Them" are pure musical genius, some of the progressive sound clips that play in the background may mean that some listeners will not like this album. With The Dark Side of the Moon album you are not going to be getting a set of 10 pop tracks like you would with your typical classic rock album. Songs like "Brain Damage" and "Eclipse" portray a person slowly going insane while others like "Money" and "Us and Them" are more of a critique of British and American societies.
If you are looking to hear an album that is truly unique and if you can approach it with an open mind then The Dark Side of the Moon is a must listen as it is truly art in its purest form.
However, this type of music is definitely not for everyone. For people looking for dance music or something that is purely a good beat, you may want to try a different genre. But for an artistic album with dark poetry and very deep lyrics, The Dark Side of the Moon is one of the best implementations ever written. This is a must listen for anyone who loves darker poetry, enjoys unique music, or just loves some interesting classic rock.
